Soil pH might sound like a chemistry class topic, but it's one of the most crucial factors in your garden's success.
What is Soil pH?
Soil pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of your soil on a scale from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is alkaline.
Why Does it Matter?
pH affects nutrient availability. Most plants prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0-7.0). At extreme pH levels, essential nutrients become locked up and unavailable to plants.
How to Test Your Soil pH
You can test soil pH using a simple test kit from your local garden center, or send a sample to your local extension office for a comprehensive analysis.
